The geek time is upon us–my yearly vacation is finally here! I’ve been going to San Diego Comic-Con since 2008, but never started dressing up until last year. My boyfriend and I dipped our toes into the cosplay pond with Recess & Archer, and I dressed up additionally as Hello Kitty.
It was so much fun to dress up as Dr. Krieger and his Virtual Girlfriend. It took a lot of time to get the materials and little pieces put together/ordered, but it was worth it in the end. It was so cool for people to recognize who we were; a great way to meet fellow Archer fans! We even ended up on G4, Uproxx, and Reddit! The Archer panel was a BLAST. We met so many cool people, some of whom also dressed up, and made a few Facebook friends, too! We were stopped for photos constantly on the Exhibit Hall floor. It was kind of scary, I really don’t know how seasoned cosplayers do it. It was also strangely flattering though, it made all the work we did feel validated. Most of all, it was super fun.

Not many people recognized us as T.J. & Spinelli from Recess; in fact I can only remember one guy half-recognizing us (he thought Ian was Mikey). It was a change of pace from our Archer cosplay. We weren’t stopped for photos nearly as much, and were able to enjoy the floor more freely. But it was still just as fun to cosplay as lesser-recognized characters. Plus, I got an awesome dress and beanie. My mom ended up keeping the boots.

Hello Kitty was a Halloween costume from a few years ago that I improved upon (ie. bought new ears). Honestly, I would be fine wearing this every year.
